This is a totally free resource I have created using my 20+ years of experience as a music teacherin UK secondary schools.
It took over 3,000 hours to create and has had a huge impact with students from KS2 and 3, even the less engaged!
About 5 years ago I set out to produce a resource that would provide learners with a way of understanding key concepts in the world of music. Since then the 'Virtual Music Room' has grown to contain over 1,000 resources
There are many areas to explore from basic concepts of sound and elements, to great composers that talk and detailed information about instruments.
There is a great emphasis on learner engagement through interactivity. There is even an interactive QWERTY keyboard that students without real instruments can play using their computer's keyboard QWERTY Keyboard
Interactive and printable quizzes are a key feature for supporting the learning and can also provide evidence for homework tasks. I've even produced printable instruction sheets and record cards for setting homework projects See an example. To present the projects in class there is even an interactive set of instructions with starter and objectives Example.
Recently added are a set of topic resources full of resources for performing well known enjoyable pieces.
A note on funding:
I have funded the hosting for the resource myself, occasionally selling additional resources to cover the cost of hosting. Currently I can do this by providing all of the resources on a cd in raw and SCORM compliant versions for use on IWBs and VLEs / Learning Platforms. There is also a disk of videos that show students how to play pieces in the topics area. Again these are in several formats for use on school networks etc. See the Topics Page
After you have explored this resource (and there's a lot worth exploring); or tried it out with some hard to engage students you can help to keep it running for free by purchasing on of my disks, and also have the advantage of being able to use the individual resources to support your own planned activities.
